4/20 With Victoria
We use this opportunity in April to tell the origin story of Aurora Elixirs, founded on true enthusiasm
for marijuana and legislation supporting its legalization for medical and recreational use.
Read on for a Q&A with our Founder, Victoria:
YOU’VE SAID THAT AURORA WAS BORN AROUND THE TIME OF RECREATIONAL CANNABIS LEGALIZATION IN OREGON. TELL US MORE:
Back in 2015, when recreational cannabis was approved in Oregon, I had just moved to the state
from New York where I had been working in the wine & spirits industry. I was inspired by the entrepreneurialism in Oregon; but was also motivated to create a cannabis beverage that was elevated and sophisticated for a demographic that loves cocktail culture and is interested in accessing cannabis socially and without stigma. The core brand message, mood and inspiration for our flavors is deeply rooted in cannabis culture.
TELL US MORE ABOUT THE FLAVORS OF AURORA AND
HOW THEY ARE ROOTED IN CANNABIS?
The flavors of our sparkling hemp beverages are designed with the hemp / cannabis terpene wheel in mind. We look towards the terpenes mostly often associated with popular strains of cannabis: Limonene, Linalool, Caryophyllene, A-Pinene, Myrcene and blend botanical ingredients that enhance those flavors and aromas: citrus, pepper, floral, piney, earthy, etc. We stay focused on combining the ingredients that truly enhance, not mask, the beautiful green aromas of our quality organic, Oregon-grown, hemp extract.
THE WORD AURORA HAS MANY MEANINGS AND ASSOCIATIONS.
DOES THE NAME HAVE ANY CONNECTION TO CANNABIS?
Aurora is the goddess of the dawn in Roman mythology; the princess protagonist of the Tchaikovsky ballet Sleeping Beauty; and the magnificent natural light display in the Northern skies also known as the Northern Lights. The Northern Lights are closely associated with the storied classic strain of Indica-dominant marijuana that was popular in the 90s. My first and fondest memories of beautiful, resinous, stinky (in the best way) buds come from the Northern Lights I procured back in the early days.
HOW DO YOU ENJOY CANNABIS TODAY?
I still enjoy smoking flower. With the incredible proliferation of new strains and combinations available for those of us fortunate enough to live in states where we can browse dispensary counters, it is hard to find the same strain twice and when it comes to wine and weed, I love to try new things.
But, sometimes the familiar knock-out body high, soothing sedation, and undeniable euphoria
from a top shelf Indica is what the doctor ordered.
THE FLAVOR OF THIS MONTH?
Sherbadough from the fine folks at PDX’s Magic Hour Cannabis. It is a hybrid, but I really enjoy the relaxation without feeling wired. Pairs perfectly with the invigorating and earthy refreshment (plus the 25mg of CBD) from a bottle of Aurora Rosemary Grapefruit. I’ve also enjoyed the Rose Gold from my local Electric Lettuce. Also a hybrid strain, but a classic euphoric buzz with a nostalgic diesel aroma. Pairs with the spicy clean citrus Cayenne Citron Aurora.
